Posters will be judged on:
- the calibre and clarity of scientific data;
- the communication of the content;
- the ability of the presenter to answer questions concerning the research and findings.
Affiliates of The Society were given the option to enter this competition when they submitted their abstract. If you did not check the ‘Blue Riband’ box upon submitting your abstract it is now too late to enter the competition.
A review panel will visit the competition Posters and discuss the science with the eligible presenter. The review panel will vote on the best Posters, and the presenting author of the winning Posters will receive a framed certificate and an Amazon voucher after the meeting.

Benevolent Fund
The Benevolent Fund was established in 1976 to aid Members of The Society and staff in physiology departments in times of hardship. Grants are given to assist with funeral arrangements, medical costs and childcare. Since administration costs are absorbed by The Society, every penny donated goes to people in need.
You can make a donation at the meeting by visiting The Physiological Society’s stand within the Trade Exhibition.
Message centre / Notice board
Messages may be left for other participants on the message board which will be located in the foyer of the Examination Halls in the New Museums Site. Participants may also place notices and advertisements here.

Young Physiologists’ Bursary Scheme (YPBS)
The aim of the YPBS is to encourage young physiologists to attend their first scientific meeting of The Society without the need to present an abstract. YPBS is open to undergraduates in the life sciences with an interest in physiology who are attending their first meeting and who are not presenting work. Non-Members of The Society can apply. The deadline for YPBS applications for Physiology 2008 has now passed.
The Scheme will cover the cost (up to a maximum £200) of standard class rail travel (or equivalent), and conference dinner, and up to two nights’ accommodation in student hostels (or equivalent).
YPBS recipients for Physiology 2008 will be identified as such on their name badge. Young Physiologists’ Bursaries can only be awarded once to eligible individuals, and cannot be awarded retrospectively.
Mobile/Cell telephones
While attending any lectures or Society events at this meeting, as a courtesy to others please turn your telephone off, or switch it to silent.
College etiquette
Colleges are centres of education, where Fellows, students and staff live and work throughout the year. Participants are kindly requested to move between venues with as little disturbance as possible. Please also keep to the footpath where possible, and please keep off the grass where advised.
